Tour Overview

Uganda and Rwanda are two countries located along the Western arm of the Rift Valley, characterized by different landscapes, but unified by the presence of the green color and green hills. They offer two different experiences of the African landscape and culture. You will follow the river Nile at Murchison Falls in Uganda, move southwards along the Albertine rift escarpment down to the thousand hills and lakes of Rwanda. This tour is a full fascination in the true nature, the forests and biodiversity.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Airport Transfer:

You will be picked up from the airport by a representative of the oasis safaris. He will transfer you to Forest Cottages hotel in Kampala or accommodation of your choice. Depending on your time of arrival you can explore Kampala city. The hotel has convenient safari style furnished rooms, equipped with satellite TV, fridge, bar, telephone, and fan, designed in harmony with the environment and aiming to fully immerse guests in a forest experience.

Journey Time: 45 Minutes

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

 This day, meet and greet with your guide. Head northwards via Masindi to Murchison falls National Park. You will have a stopover at the Masindi town for lunch. Continue the journey to the Park. You will be staying at Paraa Safari Lodge which is superbly located to explore Murchison at Paraa on the southern bank of the Nile River in the heart of the park, just 500 meters from the Paraa ferry where all vehicles cross the Nile for game drives around the Nile Delta.  Go to the top of the falls to see how incredibly the water squeezes into a 6m gape to form a thunderous roar.

Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise on the Nile River.

Get ready for an early wake-up! In the early morning hours’ animals are the most active, the sun is not yet so bright and temperatures are cooler. It offers the best time to spot wild animals. After an early breakfast, you will go out on a game drive to explore the northern part of the park. Come eye-to-eye with the African animal monarchy: elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, different species of antelope and many tropical birds may all be spotted during the drive. So keep your eyes open, they are all there in Murchison Falls National Park! In the afternoon you will take a boat safari up the Nile River to Murchison Falls. Carefully watch the crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, monkeys, and all the other thirsty wildlife that the Nile attracts, you will reach the base of the 43-meter high fall approached with a thunderous sound.

Journey Time: 3 hours on a game drive, 2 hours on a Boat cruise

Day 4: Transfer to the shadow of the Mountains of the Moon.

After breakfast, the journey today is quite long from Murchison Falls heading southwest via the Albertine Escarpment of the great Western Rift Valley. Drive through Hoima and reach Fort Portal, the capital of the Tooro kingdom, situated in the shadow of the magical Mountains of the Moon, the Rwenzoris. Have lunch. In the late afternoon you proceed to Kasenda craters.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park. Uppon arrival, checkin to Mweya Safari Lodge. Have lunch and in the evening, you will go for a boat cruise along the kazinga channel to see water birds and animals like Buffalos, crodiles among others. Return to the lodge. Dinner, Overnight.

Day 6: Game drive and chimpanzees Trek.

After breakfast, we start the day with an early morning game drive along Kasenyi trail famous for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and much more. Return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. Drive to Kyambura gorge for a forest walk to look out for the chimpanzees and other primates. The gorge is 16 km long on the Rift Valley and 100 meter deep. After the primate walk, drive to ishasha sector of the park, famous for the tree climbing lions. Return to the lodge. Dinner: Overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Today you will wake up very early in the morning to start on the journey to Bwindi where you are going to track the Gorillas. On arrival you will go starting for briefing. Your gorilla tracking will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the gorillas’ habitat. En-route, your guide will point out signs of previous gorilla activity, including dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. The time taken to track the gorillas can take as little as 2 hours to as much as 8 hours before you return! Once the gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly embarrassing and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’.

Day 8: Transfer to Gisenyi.

Today transfer to Gisenyi in Rwanda.Uppon arrival signs in to Stipp Hotel Gisenyi. Dinner: Overnight

Time: 8 hours

Accommodation: Stipp hotel Gisenyi

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 9: Scenic view and Transfer to Cyan uGu.

After breakfast with packed lunch, enjoy Gisenyi which is a beautiful town located on the shores of Lake Kivu, the main water body of Rwanda. You move down the escarpment to the lake, with incredible views of the Volcanoes. You will be transferred to Nyungwe for the option of available accommodations: One&only Nyungwe House, Nyungwe Top View Hotel. Dinner: Overnight.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 10: Primates/ Chimp tracking in Nyungwe Forest.

After an early breakfast, you will enter Nyungwe forest for the trekking in search for the chimpanzees. On the trek also expect to see numerous troops of Angolan Colobus monkeys among other species of primates. Nyungwe is a vast, uncontaminated mountain rain tropical forest with over 1000 sq km in size and you will be amazed by the strong green mountain vegetation. It is home to 13 species of primates, over 275 species of birds, 100 varieties of orchids. Ensure you take packed lunch and water with you. Return to the hotel.

Day 11: Enjoy the culture of Rwanda and Transfer to Kigali.

After breakfast, you will drive to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Stopover in Gikongoro for a tour of the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. Lunch in Butare where it is possible to find the best Rwandan original handicraft, which you cannot find in other countries of Africa. Butare hosts the biggest university and the national cultural museum, worthy a visit. Stop over in Nyanza for a tour of the royal palace of the traditional kings of Rwanda, the “Mwami”. Arrival in Kigali.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 12: Kigali City tour and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, go to visit the Kigali museum memorial for the genocide and the art and craft market as well as Nyamata genocide tombs before transferring back to Uganda. Return for lunch after which you transfer to Uganda. Upon arrival in Kabale, sign in to Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort/ Bird nest.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 13: Boat ride and Transfer to Lake Mburo.

Early morning after breakfast, aboat rides on Lake Bunyonyi to various islands on the lake for bird watching, sight seeing and discovering the sites of the Bakiga culture. Return to drive to Lake Mburo National park with lunch en-route in Mbarara town after which you proceed to the park. Upon arrival, sign in to the Mihingo Safari Lodge.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 14: Game drive, Boat ride then back to Kampala.

After breakfast, enjoy an early morning game drive along the trails of Lake Mburo National park to see Zebras, kobs, bird species, and other attractions. Return for relaxation and lunch after which you enjoy the boat ride along Lake Mburo National park to see water animals like hippos, birds among others. Return to   transfer to Kampala. Another opportunity yet to see the Ankole long horned cattle, serene vegetations, Banana plantations among others. Upon arrival, sign in to Forest Cottages.

Day 15: City tour and departure.

 After breakfast, go for a city tour around Kampala. You will visit the important cultural and religious sites like Kabaka palace and Namirembe Cathedral respectively. Return for lunch and prepare to leave for Entebbe International airport for your flight back home. Our team will be there to say good bye and to wish you a pleasing flight, taking back an unforgettable experience and treasurable memories of a country gifted by nature.
